BIOGRAPHY
Luke Andrew Batten is an award winning Australian freelance designer who has provided creative direction and services in the fields of product design, graphic design, and illustration since 2006. Working across a range of mediums over several disciplines provides him with a fresh yet balanced insight and helped to refine his development processes.
Luke has worked in-house for several prominent Australian industrial design consultancies since his 2007 graduation, worked as a design and sketching tutor at the University of Canberra and has freelanced for a range of design related companies. This work has been recognised through several major awards including 3rd Place, in the 2007 Design Institute of Australia, Industrial Design Graduate of the Year Awards and the 2011, Australian National University, Helmut Lueckenhausen Prize for Furniture.
Much of
Luke’s recent product design explores user-product interfaces, user experience
and material
properties within a wooden furniture
context. This experience
imperative looks to reassess the physical, intellectual, emotional and
psychological connections made between the user and product. Whilst, the material imperative attempts to understand,
exploit and control innate material properties and structures.
Such a design ethic seeks to create considered,
meaningful and unique products.
